“Tyrone, what are you doing here? How did you beat me to the hospital? Shouldn’t you be at the law firm?” Melody asked.

“Ari called me and told me about my baby, so I left work.”

“So, Ari, you called my fiancé before you called me?”

“It’s not like I made preferences. I randomly called the first number I could think of. I mean, I was scared,” Ari said after sighing.

“Man, what did the doctor say is wrong with my baby?” Tyrone inquired.

“We don’t know yet. The nurses just came into the room and took her vitals. They said they want to watch her oxygen saturations. They aren’t normal,” Ari replied.

“Oh my God. Why is this happening to my baby?” Melody asked.

“Melody, calm down. Everything is going to be all right. Don’t worry, I can afford the best doctors for our child.” Tyrone tried to console Melody, but she backed away with her arms crossed.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do if something happens to my baby. I can’t lose her!” Melody cried.

“Melody, why are you talking like she’s dying? We aren’t going to lose Yireh. You claim you believe in God, so where is your faith?” Tyrone questioned.

“My faith is being tested, Tyrone. I believe in God. My love for God and his ability to heal is not fake. How dare you!”

“Look, I know y’all are scared, but you two can’t argue in here. It’s not helping the situation,” Ari spoke.

“You’re right, Ari.” As much as Melody hated to admit it, Ari was talking sensibly.

“Can you tell me what exactly happened to my baby, Ari?” Melody asked.

“Well, I was feeding her, and she began to cough, and it seemed like she stopped breathing for a minute.”

“Did she throw up?” Melody asked.

“No, she didn’t throw up. She just stopped eating,” Ari replied.

“Did you feed her the milk I pumped her this morning?” Melody asked.

“I think I did. I just grabbed a bottle out the refrigerator.”

“Oh man, this just doesn’t make any sense to me!” Melody exclaimed while hitting her head with the palm of her hand.

Moments later, the doctor entered the room.

“Hello, I’m Doctor Benton. I will be caring for baby Yireh while she’s here.”

“How are you doing, doctor?” Tyrone inquired as he shook Dr. Benton’s hand.

“Can you tell me what’s wrong with my baby? I’m her mother,” Melody demanded.

“Sure, Ms. Sapphire. We have run some tests on her. I believe it could be several things. One thing for sure is she has brain immaturity, and it’s causing apnea. We want to keep her overnight to continue to watch her breathing. In all, she’s fine, and there’s nothing to worry about. It could also just be acid reflux. We just need to watch her.”

“How long will my baby stay here?” Melody asked.

“I don’t know yet, ma’am. We put a pulse oximeter on her hand. The device checks the amount of oxygen in her blood and her heart rate. We will also test her blood and urine. Once we find that everything is normal for her, we’ll allow her to go home.
